How to Prepare a “Camp Cook Kit”: Memorable Meals During Your Outdoor Adventure
How to Prepare a “Camp Cook Kit”: Memorable Meals During Your Outdoor Adventure
Outdoor adventuring may look and feel a bit different these days, but outside aficionados are finding ways to be one with nature and enjoy the outdoors. Whether you’re a traditional camper, a stargazer or waterfall chaser, clearly, there’s more than one way to camp. No matter your camping style, you’re going to get hungry – and thirsty – out there. Whether you are planning an overnight camp, a backyard camping experience with the family, or a glamping weekend getaway, Stanley camping cookware & gear is built for making high-quality, tasty meals and for sipping and swigging fire-side. Outside aficionado Nolan Berg shares his tips for preparing the perfect “Camp Cook Kit” to help you get “outside ready” this season.  *** Get Organized – Prepare a “Camp Cook” Kit If you’re like me, you love your gear just as much as the adventure. During the Winter, I organized and updated my camping gear kits. My system includes my beloved “Camp Cook Kit,” a must-have for every traditional and non-traditional camper. Cook Set Essentials for Your Camp Cook Kit This kit holds essential items that ensure my family and I enjoy a great meal. One of the biggest space savers is my Stanley Adventure Even-Heat Camp Pro Cook Set. It is compact and holds three high-quality pots and pans that allow you to control your heat and feel like an outdoor chef. I use this in combination with the bowls, plates and sporks from the Adventure Full Kitchen Base Camp Cook Set. This set is a perfect starting point for camp cooking because it has everything you need for making tasty meals - and it packs up into a nice compact bundle for storing when done with use.   Coffee Gear for Your Camp Cook Kit There is nothing better than a great cup of coffee first thing in the morning, but it’s that much better when you are sitting lakeside at your campsite on a Summer morning. My favorite coffee gear is the Classic Perfect-Brew Pour Over Set – easy to use, and brews great coffee anywhere your adventure brings you. Best of all, it is zero waste! When it comes to preparing coffee for on-the-go adventures, you need a great mug for enjoying hot coffee on a walk or kayak outing. I prefer my 20-oz. leakproof Classic Trigger-Action Travel Mug for its sleek design and promise to keep my coffee hot for hours.   Barware Musts for Your Camp Cook Kit There’s no better way to unwind after a day of camping than with an adult beverage by the campfire. My Master Unbreakable Hip Flask is a must for those nights with either friends or family by the fire.  If you happened to forget to pack your bottle opener, try the Stanley Classic Bottle Opener Beer Stein – this smart stein has one built right in. Camping is that much more fun when you’re prepared. And when you’re done with your trip, bring your Camp Cook Kit into your home kitchen – all of your favorite gear can be used to make a mean meal at home, too! I’ll raise a stein to your camping adventures this season – have fun out there!
A Creator’s Journey Through Seattle’s International District
A Creator’s Journey Through Seattle’s International District
In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re shining a light on one of our favorite Seattle neighborhoods: the historic International District (ID). Located two miles away from Stanley headquarters, the ID includes Chinatown, Japantown, and Little Saigon, representative of the immigrant communities who formed the neighborhood in the early 1900s. It is a melting pot of cultures and history, with architecture that blends both Asian and American traditions. This diverse, culturally rich area is full of an array of shops, restaurants, green spaces, museums, historic landmarks, and other must-see attractions when visiting Seattle. Artist and Seattleite Vivian Mak recently shared some of her favorite spots in the ID along with her community mural in the entryway of Uwajimaya Village. The mural was created in partnership with Urban Artworks, a non-profit engaging youth and communities in the creation of public art that inspires connections and honors their voices. "I wanted this mural to embody a sense of togetherness. I hope that those who pass by feel something from it. They might not know the symbolism behind it but I believe they will feel the energy from it,” Vivian says about the mural, pictured below.   The Uwajimaya Village is an apartment community and mixed-used building connected to ID staple, the Uwajimaya supermarket. Uwajimaya was founded by Japanese entrepreneur Fujimatsu Moriguchi in 1928 as a small business in Tacoma, WA. Following World War II, Mr. Moriguchi anchored the family business in Seattle’s International District. After growing to four locations, Uwajimaya is now the largest Japanese supermarket in the Pacific Northwest and a great stop for food, books, gifts, and weekly grocery runs. Other can’t-miss spots in the ID from our tour with Vivian: Fuji Bakery – This Japanese French artisan bakery is known for its beautiful pastries and other freshly baked goods. New Century Tea Gallery – A delightful tea shop that offers high-quality teas and gracious service. (Tip: Brew your tea at Hing Hay Park with a Stanley insulated bottle filled with hot water, a Camp Mug, and a tea strainer.) Jade Garden Restaurant – This ID icon is the place to go for dim sum—morning, noon, or night. Hing Hay Park – An expansive, award-winning park with spaces for quiet contemplation, outdoor fitness, performances, and festivals. Adding to Vivian’s favorite finds, we also recommend: Tai Tung Restaurant – This popular spot is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Seattle, open since 1935, and rumored to be infamous martial-arts star Bruce Lee’s favorite. Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience – If you can’t visit this treasure in person, you can still enjoy an online virtual tour or join a virtual book talk.   This month and every month, we encourage you to seek out and support your local AAPI-owned businesses and share your discoveries with friends and family.

A few easy ways to stay hydrated: make sure you always have water with you; hydrate before, during, and after your workouts; and track your water consumption. A Little Warmth Goes A Long Way
Guest Blog by Adam Edwards Elijah stands in the doorway of his camper van making coffee with his Stanley Pour Over. We’ve spent the last two days snowboarding on Mt. Hood in Oregon. Following each other down through the trees. Stopping for nips from our hip flasks and the vacuum bottle full of hot toddy, whenever we felt the need to warm up and laugh a bit. Now we’re packing up to head to the coast, where we hope to catch some winter waves. Kenny comes around the front of the van. He waits as Elijah pours a steaming beverage into his Stanley Camp Mug from the vacuum bottle on the counter. Kenny takes a big sip and his face screws up in surprise. “Hot toddy?” I ask, bemused. “Hot toddy,” he says, laughing. The toddy strikes again. The past two days, it’s been a close friend on the long rides down Timberline Lodge’s runs. Sneaking warm moments in the trees and laughing about lines. Leaving the cold, dry terrain of Mt. Hood, we drive back through the Willamette Valley. We follow the snow and rain out of the hills and towards the coast. A winter storm is hammering our destination of Newport, Oregon. Rain comes down in a steady drone and the ocean tides crash against the jetties. We gear up and walk to the beach, hearing the thunderous waves before we can see them. We reach the top of the dune and see chaos. It reminds me of all the times I went to the beach as a child but couldn't get in the water because I was too small. We are specks of sand compared to the rip currents and chaotic wedges of water. We knew this outcome was likely, but it doesn't stave off our disappointment. Suddenly, the  familiar sound of air escaping cuts through the roar of the ocean. I look over at Kenny, who has opened his Stanley vacuum bottle. “Toddy?” he offers. Laughing, I reach out to take the drink. We turn and walk back to the vans. The camp mug is still warm from my friend's hand and the hot toddy soothes my angst about not paddling out. We make dinner and enjoy the storm from the comfort of Elijah’s heated rig. Soon enough, the smells of food and drink fill the small space, and we open the van’s door to watch the storm vent itself. There’ll be other days.  ADAM’S CAMPING HOT TODDY RECIPE Ingredients: 1½ sachets Gold Kili Instant Ginger Herbal Tea Drink 8 oz hot water 1 oz bourbon, your choice Instructions: Pour ginger drink crystals into your camp mug. Holding the camp mug at a slight angle, add hot water from your vacuum bottle, stopping when the water is two fingers below the rim of the mug. (Try to pour the water over the crystals so they dissolve without stirring.) Add bourbon from your hip flask. Place the lid on your camp mug and enjoy.     Adam Edwards is an arborist, writer and avid outdoorsman based in Portland, Oregon.
