BEHIND THE SCENES WITH LAINEY Collaborating with Stanley isn’t all Lainey is up to! She is fresh off of her own sold out headlining tour and already back out on the road with Luke Combs. She took some time out of her busy schedule to chat with us about Watermelon Moonshine, partnering with Stanley and of course, her favorite recipe for that delicious summertime drink. YOUR SONGS ARE SO PERSONAL, WHERE DO YOU FIND IDEAS AND INSPIRATION? The things that inspire me to write music go hand in hand with where my ideas come from. Experiences, living life, being a sister, friend, girlfriend, daughter and aunt. I love listening to folks’ stories and putting them into a song. I love making people feel something. Storytelling is part of my DNA. YOU'VE HAD AN EXCITING CAREER ALREADY, WHAT'S ONE DAY THAT STANDS OUT? February 14, 2020 was a day I’ll never forget. I got to play the Grand Ole Opry. It’s a place and stage that I consider sacred. I knew at nine years old when I went to the Opry for the first time, that one day I would be standing in that wooden circle…it was a full circle moment for me and for my family. YOUR FANS OBVIOUSLY LOVE SEEING YOU PLAY LIVE. HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN UP ON STAGE PERFORMING I love interacting during my live shows. I love reading the signs in the crowd and pulling fans up on stage when I get the chance. It’s an energy exchange. We give each other the energy to keep on going. I keep showing up for them, they keep showing up for me. We’ve got a good thing going. WHERE DID THE SONG WATERMELON MOONSHINE COME FROM? It’s about that young, wild, crazy love that many of us have felt at some point in time. It takes you back to a time and place where nothing else mattered. Every now and then, it’s fun to revisit that place in your mind. That’s where our heads were at when we were writing this one. IT SURE SEEMS LIKE YOUR FANS LIKE TO GO BACK TO THAT TIME AND PLACE, TOO. I feel like it’s becoming a summer anthem. More and more folks are singing along - and I mean every word. Sonically, it’s pretty dreamy and the way it makes you feel is really just, well…free. I can see fans getting lost in the moment when they’re singing along, and I love to get lost with them. WE HAVE TO ASK – WILL YOU SHARE YOUR FAVORITE WATERMELON MOONSHINE RECIPE WITH US? It’s my uncle’s recipe that’s whipped up way back in the woods…. a family secret. But here’s a recipe that’s almost as good as my uncle’s: WATERMELON MOONSHINE RECIPE Ingredients 4 heaping cups of watermelon (about ½ a watermelon) 1 cup Everclear ½ cup fresh lime juice (about 3 limes) 1 ¼ cups sugar 1 ½ cups water ½ cup to 1 cup Watermelon Pucker WATERMELON MOONSHINE RECIPE Ingredients 4 heaping cups of watermelon (about ½ a watermelon) 1 cup Everclear ½ cup fresh lime juice (about 3 limes) 1 ¼ cups sugar 1 ½ cups water ½ cup to 1 cup Watermelon Pucker Instructions Combine watermelon chunks and Everclear in a glass jar with a lid. In a small pot, combine lime juice, sugar and water. Over medium heat, stir until sugar is fully dissolved (no need to bring to a boil). Remove from heat and let it cool down. Pour simple syrup into the jar. Allow it to sit in the refrigerator for a night or two. Pour the contents of the jar into a bowl and mash the watermelon with a potato masher, then strain mixture back into the jar. Add ½ cup of the Watermelon Pucker. Shake, taste to see if the flavor is to your liking. If it’s not sweet enough or you need a little more watermelon flavor, add in additional Watermelon Pucker. Store in your freezer until you’re ready for more. Note: Always leave room in the jars. The mixture should not truly freeze up, however, err on the side of caution. Freeze overnight (or longer). WHEN YOU'RE NOT SIPPING ON WATERMELON MOONSHINE, WHAT'S IN YOUR STANLEY? Lots of water, whiskey on a show day, a beer by the fire, some wine with a good meal and some tequila on a girls’ night out. WHAT GOT YOU EXCITED ABOUT PARTNERING WITH STANLEY? It’s the cup you see everybody carrying around. It’s the cup that keeps the cold dranks cold and the hot dranks hot. But most importantly, it’s what my papaw drank out of everyday of his life. Thank you, Lainey, for sharing your story with us!
